INNOVATIONS AND SAFETY IN PIG FEEDING: THE ROLE OF ORGANIC ACIDS IN LIQUID FEEDING SYSTEMS

PigsFarming Industry highlights innovations in pig feeding safety. Boost efficiency and herd health—explore key takeaways now!

Modern industrial pig farming requires continuous improvement of technological processes. Recently, industry specialists gathered at the All-Ukrainian Practical Forum PigsFarming Industry in Lviv — a key platform for experience sharing, discussing challenges, and finding innovative solutions. One of the most relevant topics was the safety of liquid feeding systems.

The PigsFarming Industry forum brings together leading experts, technologists, and producers. AVA Group traditionally took an active part in the event, presenting practical solutions for optimizing processes on pig farms.

Particular attention from the audience was drawn to the presentation titled: “Organic acids as a key factor for safety and quality in automated liquid feeding systems for pigs.” The speaker was invited expert Adries Haveman, head of the Dutch company AgriPura.

In his presentation, Adries Haveman emphasized that the use of specially formulated organic acid blends is a fundamental tool for hygiene control. Their action is focused on several key aspects:

  • Pathogen control: acids effectively suppress the growth of harmful bacteria (including E. coli and Salmonella) directly in feed lines and mixing tanks, preventing fermentation and feed spoilage.
  • pH optimization: lowering feed acidity stimulates enzyme secretion, significantly improving digestibility and nutrient absorption.
  • Gut health support: stabilization of the intestinal microbiome strengthens immunity, improves feed conversion, and enhances overall herd productivity.

The experience of European specialists presented at PigsFarming Industry confirms that in intensive pig farming, organic acids have moved from being a simple feed additive to an essential technological tool. Their systematic use ensures the safety of the entire liquid feeding cycle, which is critically important for maintaining animal health and achieving maximum economic efficiency in production.
