ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Mike Hutjens was born and raised on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. He earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin.
From 1971 to 1979, Dr. Hutjens worked as a dairy extension specialist at the University of Minnesota, where in 1978 he coached the national champion dairy judging team at the World Dairy Expo.
Since 1979, he has served on the Animal Sciences faculty at the University of Illinois as a dairy extension specialist. Mike has spoken at 60–70 conferences across 46 U.S. states and 18 countries. He writes feeding articles for Hoard’s Dairyman magazine and hosts the monthly Hoard’s Dairy webinars.
His numerous awards include the Undergraduate Teaching Purina Award from the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA), the National DeLaval Extension Worker Award, the Applied Nutrition Award, and recognition as an Outstanding Extension Teacher at the University of Illinois in 1993 and 2000. He has also received two Certificates of Merit from the Minnesota Board of Regents.
Mike served as President of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA). In 2008, he was named Industry Person of the Year at the World Dairy Expo. In 2009, he received the ADSA Honor Award and the Eagle Award from the Illinois Farm Bureau, followed by the National DHI Service Award in 2013 and the title of Dairy Industry Person of the Year in 2019.
Today, Mike teaches online to over 1,200 international students in five languages, continuously updating his materials and releasing a weekly podcast.
