ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Stefan Borchardt grew up in Brandenburg, Germany, where his father worked as a practicing veterinarian for more than 40 years. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the Free University of Berlin and later completed his doctoral studies (Dr. med. vet.) at the university’s Clinic for Ruminants and Swine.

Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Borchardt spent two and a half years in private veterinary practice in northern Germany, specializing in farm animal health. He then served for two years as Chief Veterinarian on a large dairy farm in Eastern Europe.

Since 2014, Dr. Borchardt has been a research scientist at the Clinic for Animal Reproduction at the Free University of Berlin. In this role, he teaches both fundamental and applied aspects of reproductive biology while continuing to provide clinical services. His research focuses on the biological mechanisms underlying reproductive function in dairy cows, with the goal of improving herd fertility by translating scientific findings into practical herd management strategies and evaluating innovative reproductive technologies. A particular emphasis of his work is the application of automated activity monitoring systems to enhance reproductive management.
